Environmental Problem

The environment constantly changes day by day. As our environment changes we need to be more aware about the problems that surrounds it.

Environmental problems are exposing us to attack from disasters in future. The recognition of the issues related to environment started somewhere in the seventies.

India is at the center of planetary emergency with a bundle of environmental problems. The main issues with respect to environment are pollution, global warming, overpopulation, natural resource depletion, waste disposal, climate change, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, ocean acidification and ozone layer depletion.

The Stockholm Declaration of 1972 (United Nations Conference on the Human Environment 1972), is generally considered as the Magna Carta of environment. The Stockholm Declaration led to the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, 1989. Under the aegis of the United Nation the World Commission on Environment and Development (CWCED) was constituted. The commission is also known as the BRUNDTLAND Commission and has been instrumental in defining and introducing the term sustainable development. Some of the other important international documents on environment are the Aarhus Convention on Access to information, Public Participation in Decision making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters, 1998, International Plant Protection Convention, 1952, the World heritage Convention , 1972, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, 1971, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, 2004, the Convention on International trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, 1975, the Convention on Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, 1979 and the Convention of Biological Diversity, 1993.

In India some of the most important Legislations on Environment are listed here

India has a number of NGOs that work in the field of environmental protection and ecology, e.g., Assam Science Society, Bombay Natural History Society,Centre for Environmental Education (CEE), Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), CPR Environmental Education Centre (C.P.RamaswamiAiyar Foundation), Kerala Sastra SahitiyaParishad, Kalpavriksh, Narmada BachaoAndalon, World Wide Fund for Nature, Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT), etc.
