Addiction does not happen overnight. With increased consumption users become physically dependent on such substances. Addiction refers to physical and psychological dependency on alcohol or other psychotropic substances. It starts as a mild problem and gradually becomes severe.
Most of the drugs used are illegal putting the users at risk as they get involved in criminal activities to obtain the substance of abuse. Users tend to get so dependent that they lose their mental sense and are known to resort to various illegal and immoral actions to acquire them. They crave for the addictive substance and feel helpless if they are not being able to obtain it.
